Chapter 376: The Beginning
“To overthrow the king of this country, along with those who side with him… that’s quite an extraordinarily large matter.”
It was an unexpected answer, but since it was the objective the three princesses were undertaking together,
It was something she could accept quickly, and so Florence voiced the next question that came to mind.
“Why has it come to such a situation?”
A conflict between the three princesses and the king, along with the royalist faction that sides with him.
Viewed as a single nation, it was undoubtedly an enormous conflict, and yet in recent years, thanks in part to Elizalina’s mediation, no such conflict had existed in this country.
And now, she had heard about that very conflict directly from Elizalina herself.
No matter how she looked at it, she couldn’t help but question the situation.
As Florence thought this, Elizalina spoke.
“It might sound like a big deal, but the reason it started is actually really trivial, and honestly pretty hopeless.”
Letting out an exasperated sigh, she continued.
“As someone who believes in what kind of person should become king of this country, Father places more importance on lineage than on character… he does seem to consider ability too, but even that’s based on lineage, and his standards for what makes a good king are different from ours, he thinks kindness isn’t necessary for a king.”
Kindness isn’t necessary… I see.
If Felisiana were to hear those words…
Imagining that, Florence grasped one of the causes of the conflict,
But she didn’t interrupt, and instead continued listening to Elizalina’s explanation.
“And as you know, Florence, the one Felisiana and I want to be engaged to is Lux, who has the kindest heart in the world, right? So our fundamental way of thinking doesn’t match, and before anything else, Father can’t accept that Felisiana and I are trying to get engaged to a boy from a count’s family.”
“That is what you mean by placing importance on lineage…?”
“Exactly. It doesn’t make sense, right? Even a count’s family is fairly well-born, but Father thinks that if we, as royalty, are to get engaged, then only royalty or dukes are acceptable… well, even if that weren’t the case, he’d probably still disapprove just because Lux is kind… this is the origin of the current conflict.”
“…Indeed, at the very least, the king’s way of thinking is not something I can sympathize with.”
After hearing everything and nodding in understanding, Elizalina nodded as well.
“Right? But since it’s about who becomes king, you might think it doesn’t concern you if you were to get engaged to Lux… but the House of Florence is one of the most powerful ducal houses in the country, so if the daughter of such a house were to say she’s getting engaged to Lux of a count’s family, there’s a chance it would be obstructed in some way.”
“That is true… though I never considered myself unrelated to this matter, as someone who lives in this country.”
Having heard everything from Elizalina,
Regarding the proposal to join forces…
“Understood… in that case, I will also cooperate with you princesses in this matter… please tell me the details at a later time, once things have progressed further.”
She replied.
“Alright then… I’m counting on you.”
“Yes, I look forward to working with you.”
…
Recalling that conversation, in which she had formed a peculiar relationship of both cooperation and opposition with Elizalina and Felisiana, Florence glanced at Lux walking beside her.
Please rest assured, Lux-sama… no matter what happens in this country, I will surely…
As she murmured that in her heart,
She set aside such unnecessary thoughts for the moment,
And spent her time in town freely enjoying herself together with Lux.
And then, a few days later.
The day finally came when Florence, Felisiana, Violet, Elizalina, and Rezamiliana would gather to discuss the plan to overthrow the king…
